Stane Jagodič is a leading name in the field of artistic photo collage in the Slovenian cultural sphere. Since the second half of the 1960s, he has been exploring the artistic use of photography and some of its creative derivatives, such as photomontage or photocollage. Initially, his neo-avant-garde practise was primarily linked to the Dada movement, but he has also always placed great emphasis on committed art in the sense of satirically engaged photo collage. Jagodič, who created a series of works of exceptional quality, especially in his black-and-white period, that belong to the forefront of the Slovenian photographic neo-avant-garde, later transferred the principle of collage to sculpture with a large-scale production of humanistically engaged assemblages. In this year’s exhibition at Photon Gallery and SKC Korotan in Vienna, he presents a selection of committed anti-war photocollages, with a particular focus on his more recent works in which he responds to current events, especially the war in Ukraine.
