Photographs and text by Teodor Lorenčič
The photographic material of the OCCUPIED EUROPE TOUR 1983, a documentary testimony which has been indispensable for understanding a Slovenian avant-garde music group LAIBACH, remained lost for decades. As a collaborator of LAIBACH KUNST, Teodor Lorenčič was part of that, in a strategic sense, fateful tour and recorded it with his camera. A year before the 40th anniversary of the LAIBACH, he unexpectedly found the films on which the book and now the exhibition were based.
In April 1983, LAIBACH performed with the English band Last Few Days at the Zagreb Biennale at the concert, entitled We Forge the Future. That performance was interrupted by the police. It all ended with a ban on name and public appearances of LAIBACH in Yugoslavia. Under these circumstances, LAIBACH decided to go on a tour called the OCCUPIED EUROPE TOUR with Last Few Days. This tour represents a historical turning point and a cornerstone for the previous 40 »years of eternity«, steadfastness and eternal readiness in the spirit of collectivism and anonymity of the group’s members.
