Alessandra D'Intino: The Echo of Pix
Opening: Friday, 6 September 2019, at 7pm
7 – 18 September 2019
Photography has become an indispensable part of our lives: I photograph, therefore I am.
More pictures are taken and shared in a single day than previous generations were able to produce over years, or entire lifetimes. In “The Echo of Pix”, Alessandra D‘Intino dives into this constantly growing sea of images. She is interested in the dynamics that arise once images are fed into the infinite universe of the World Wide Web.
Regardless of copyright and privacy settings, the age of digitization is also the age of copy and paste, such that photographs emerge and are reused without loss of quality in the most unpredictable contexts. D‘Intino focuses on this infinite copiability and the inherent uncontrollability of images by compiling found footage collages that enter into a direct dialogue with Joan Fontcuberta‘s famous wall mosaic “The World Begins With Every Kiss”.
She thus refers to the paradox that every artistic confrontation with today‘s flood of images inevitably becomes at the same time a part of that flood: such a confrontation nourishes it, and can even fuel it. “The Echo of Pix” is, therefore, both an homage and a selfie wall. Photography is expressly desired: #echoofpix.
This exhibition is a collaboration between Photon Gallery and Zigutamve-Photography.
