Forbidden Whispers. Laibach and North Korea in the MSU in Zagreb
The opening of the exhibition is on 15 June 2019 at 8 pm, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Avenija Dubrovnik 17, Zagreb.
The photography exhibition Forbidden Whispers. Laibach and North Korea, which was exhibited at the Photon Gallery in Ljubljana and Vienna in 2018, will open on the day of the Laibach rooftop concert at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb.
In August 2015, the musical group Laibach traveled to North Korea to perform a concert in Pyongyang as a part of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Korean Peninsula. A Norwegian film director, activist, and artist Morten Traavik made a documentary movie on the groups’ visit entitled Liberation Day. Forbidden Whispers exhibition, however, goes far beyond the documentary footage from Laibach’s tour and the filming process, in presenting works that depict the everyday and the mundane of the North Korean people. An equal part of the exhibition consists also of art photo works which were created in North Korea on other occasions, presenting some original artistic approaches to the subject matter.
