Roberto Kusterle - Cartacei & Echo
2.6. – 28. 6. 2023
Opening: Friday, June 2nd 2023 at 19:00.
Roberto Kusterle is an internationally renowned visual artist and photographer with a unique photographic style and a distinctive aesthetic based on staged photography. In his work, he creates a world that is the product of his own imagination and in which the boundaries between the real and the imaginary are blurred. The central motif of most of his photographic cycles are fantastic creatures depicted in a state of transformation from humans to animals, plants or natural elements, which provoke reflection on the relationship between man and nature, their alienation and possible coexistence.
This exhibition presents a selection of photographs from two photo series created in recent years, in which Kusterle explores the fine line between reality and fiction, which has been completely blurred by the advent of digital software. In the works from the Images on Paper/Cartacei series, he visually fuses images of human figures and archival papers with various injuries layered on top of each other so that the texture of the skin blends into the paper. The viewer is therefore no longer able to distinguish which fragments are original and which have been created with the special effects of new technologies, which is the surface of the body and which is paper. The play with the viewer’s perception is also clearly visible in the second photo series Echo, in which he transforms close-ups of rock masses into fictitious mountain landscapes.
