Magnum Photos is the largest and most famous photo agency in the world, this year celebrating the 70th anniversary of its existence, established in 1947 by Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, David Seymour and George Rodger. Magnum Photos is a photographic co-operative of great diversity and distinction owned by its photographer-members. With powerful individual vision, Magnum photographers chronicle the world and interpret its peoples, events, issues and personalities. The Magnum Photos library is a living archive updated daily with new work from across the globe. The library houses all the work produced by Magnum photographers and some special collections by non-members. The Magnum Photos library reflects all aspects of life throughout the world and the unparalleled sense of vision, imagination and brilliance of the greatest collective of documentary photographers. In short, when you picture an iconic image, but can’t think who took it or where it can be found, it probably came from Magnum.
Magnum provides photographs to the press, publishers, advertising, television, galleries and museums across the world. Magnum now comprises of four editorial offices in New York, London, Paris and Tokyo, and a network of fifteen sub-agents. Photon Gallery collaborates with Magnum in the segment of the exhibition program for East Europe. On the 70th anniversary of Magnum, Photon has prepared the exhibition entitled Close Enough?, which brings the selection of up to sixty works from a rich history of the agency, including some iconic images taken by the great figures in the history of photography, such as Herbert List, Bruce Davidson, Elliott Erwitt, Werner Bischolf, Martin Parr and, of course, Robert Capa.
Photon Gallery will organize rich accompanying events on the occasion of the exhibition. The schedule will soon be published on the websites; moreover, Photon Gallery will make it possible not only to see but also to buy unique photo enlargements of Magnum’s photographers, along with a number of publications and other items featuring Magnum photographs.
In addition to the exhibition, Photon Gallery organizes some accompanying events. The program will soon be published on the gallery website. You are already invited to the lecture by Simone Klein “The Past, Present and Future of Magnum Photos” – gallery work in a world-famous agency “on June 1 at 7 pm.
