Different Worlds is an international open call, solely aimed at presentations of creative or artistic achievements in the field of contemporary photography. It started as an initiative of Photon – Centre for Contemporary Photography from Ljubljana – to encourage, evaluate and promote young, not-yet-established, and emerging generations of artists and photographers. With the help of internationally renowned participating experts the competition promotes the ideas of creative diversity, difference and critical thought.

Every year the jury selects up to 10 artists to be exhibited at the final exhibition. Among them three awards are given, first in the production value of 1,000€. After the initial show in Ljubljana the exhibition goes on tour (in 2017 it was/will be shown in Vienna, Budapest and Bratislava). The catalogue with the presentations of all selected artists is produced and distributed across various regional venues.

The contest is open to artists up to 35 years of age (including those born in 1981) who live and work in the states of the western Balkans/former Yugoslavia (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia) the CEE region (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria) or who come from these states and live and work abroad.

Open for submissions: 15 June 2017
Deadline for submission: 15 September 2017
The applicants will be informed about the results by 1 October 2017.
The exhibition in Ljubljana opens on 6 November 2017.
